I always love it when clients reach out to me with new ideas for products. It gets me excited to go out of my comfort zone.
A few weeks ago, an old friend from college reached out to see if I could take one of her fathers shirts & turn it into a pillow. Now I've made plenty of pillows in my past, but never from a shirt, so I was pretty excited about this!
The finished product came out so cute, not to brag or anything . But I love this idea. I love taking something that holds memories and turning it into something you can cherish for times to come.
I really think this is going to become one of our regular products! It's a great alternative if you don't have a enough shirts for a Tshirt quilt!
If you remember last year, it was my nephews first birthday! To celebrate, he had a super Mickey Mouse themed birthday party! I obviously wanted to make a bunch of the decorations as well as in the invites in the Mickey theme.
I love the idea of personalizing everything, that should be no surprise. I really think it's the little things that make an event or a party more special. His name, Diego, is not the most common name so finding banners or decorations that have his name already on it is not the easiest task. Incorporating his name into his invites & the decorations is such a fun thing to do for me!
as his second birthday is approaching, a party theme has been decided! And that theme is...
The kid loves them, they're his new favorite thing going into his second year! What I love about the minions is there are so many ways to turn anything into a minion. They're so simple but so cute!
So far, we're still in the planning stages, but the invites are just about ready to be mailed out & I had to share them with you! Over the next few weeks, banners, food tents, and other decorations will be created & I cannot wait to see how they come out!
Tracking my food in my My Fitness Pal app really helps me stay on track too. I track what I'm eating & drinking and can assess what I can eat later in the day. This app can adjust your calories based on if you work out as well. This has been a huge help for me!
Let me start by saying, I am not a big breakfast food person. I love eating in the morning, but I'm not a big fan of waffles, pancakes, or eggs. I have to be in the mood for them. So normally, I was eating your regular foods- but mainly tomato salad. Yup, I would eat just about daily a tomato salad usually with tomatoes (duh), olives, cucumber, beans, avocado & oil. Lots and lots of olive oil so that my bread that I had could soak up all the juices.
It's obviously not the worst thing in the world but it's certainly not the best.
So, I've recently decided, I couldn't eat that every morning as well as a full lunch & snacks. That just wasn't going to work anymore. I've been figuring out what fills me up in the morning that I actually enjoy eating. So here are my new favorite breakfast foods that are perfect for work & a peak into what I eat throughout a normal day:
-Steel cut oatmeal- made with a little bit of vanilla & cinnamon. I love to add a touch of peanut butter & banana OR blueberries, strawberries and a smidgen of pure maple syrup.
-English muffins seem so obvious for a breakfast on the go & I've recently become obsessed with the Vermont Country brand. They're so hearty & delicious! I'll skip the butter and instead will add a tablespoon of peanut butter or half an avocado depending on my mood.
-Smoothie- when I have some extra time in the mornings, I'll make a smoothie! I add a little bit of water, kale or fresh spinach leafs, a scoop of protein powder (I use the brand Tera's Whey), and some frozen fruit. If I see frozen fruit on sale, I'll buy it. Otherwise, I'll use our food saver & make some single serve pouches with fruit and freeze them. I also throw in about a teaspoon or so of chia seeds- this doesn't alter the taste, but it makes my smoothies nice & thick. This gets them to an ice cream consistency and it's amazing.
- I love a soup & a salad combo. We always are making soups at home especially an easy veggie soup, lentil soup or a potato, leek & broccoli soup. My favorite thing about salads is how they can be customized every day. I'll throw in cherry tomatoes, olives, beans, corn, avocado, mushrooms & so many other things sometimes to add flavors & colors. However, I refuse to add fruits or nuts to my salad, for whatever reason, it freaks me out!
-Tuna with avocado. That's right, I completely skip the mayo- honestly mayo freaks me out. Instead, I take a half of a ripe avocado, mash it up & mix it into my tuna. I also add all sorts of things to my tuna, which might be weird. But I love adding a little bit of onion, celery, olives, pickles & tomatoes. Sometimes I add it all too! I only make this every so often, but when I do, I love it!
-Beans & Rice is a go to for me especially since I don't eat meat. It gives me some protein & keeps me full. I either make rice a head of time, or I've been really into the pouches of rice you can get at the grocery store. I'll use a third or a half of the pack & mix it with beans. I typically go for red kidney beans or black beans.
This is where I tend to eat most of my calories & will indulge a little bit more than I do throughout the day.
- I love veggie burgers, they're one of my all time favorite things to eat! I'll add a slice of cheese to my burger, skip the bun & have 2 sides. It all depends on my mood- I love the majority of vegetables, and often I'll end up sautéing some spinach or making some brussel sprouts with my burger. I'll have a small salad or a baked potato with it!
-Pasta, pasta, pasta. I love pasta & just because I'm watching what I eat, doesn't mean I won't ever eat this! What I am watching 95% of the time is my portion control. Let's be honest, I could straight up eat pretty close to an entire pound of pasta if I put my mind to it. So I watch how much I'm eating & I'll add a vegetable into my bowl. I love broccoli with pasta, or mixed vegetables sometimes. And, if I'm still hungry after, I'll eat a salad or a veggie to fill me up!
-I also love to make things like stuffed peppers, zoodles, shrimp tacos, salmon & more!
I'm a snacker throughout the day but looking back, I wasn't picking the smartest snacks. Now I focus on having a snack in between each meal to keep me fueled up to get through each day.
For me, I've been having a piece of fruit mid morning- banana, strawberries or apples are my go to. In the afternoon after lunch, I'll snack on carrots, peppers, celery, cucumber & cherry tomatoes. I'll mix it up between these. Or I'll have a handful of mixed nuts which always fills me up! When I want something a little different, I go for skinny pop (which I can eat an obscene amount of!) or veggie sticks.
Oh, and don't forget about my Nutella!! I will never give up on Nutella, however when I'm snacking with it, instead of having numerous tablespoons of it at a time, I've been limiting myself. I only need a little bit o make my day!
After last weeks awful run, I really had to psych myself up to get back out there. I really had to build it up in my head & just make sure that I didn't let 2 bad runs turn me completely off. And I'm SO happy I got my butt back on the track.
The first day back out was better. It wasn't my best run by any means but it was better than my worst day & that was something I needed. I think it's important to get back out there. I mean, they always tell you when you fall off the horse to get back up, right? (Or am I mixing up that saying?) Anyway, I think if I let myself sit and stew on a bad run, or on how much I don't like running, then I would have never gotten back out there.
Mid week, I had the choice- I had about 40 minutes to spare between the end of work & a meeting. Do I just go out and run quick or do I just go to our meeting early & wait? I decided that in spite of the rainy weather, I would just do it.
And I'm glad I did. I'm not quite sure what it was- whether it was the fact that there was nobody on the track so I was less self conscious or if the cool rain just made me feel good, but I ran an entire mile, non-stop! That's huge for me! Especially considering just 5 weeks ago running one lap around the track wasn't happening! It was so nice feeling so proud of myself. I left that track after a creepy man emerged standing at the edge of the track watching me, feeling great. At that moment, I knew the 5K was actually possible.
My run after that, I knew that a mile non stop had to happen. And it happened! I ran 1.22 miles, I pushed myself a little more, walked a lap and then ran ANOTHER mile! I wasn't focused on how fast I was going or what I looked like, instead I was focused on finishing the mile, telling myself I could do this. My forth run of the week, I once again ran a mile- pushing myself a tiny bit more and running 1.3 miles at once. If I don't push myself, how am I supposed to get better?
But my biggest realization this week aside from now knowing I can run, was realizing who I'm doing this for. In the past, I've always set my goals & while working towards achieving them, I always keep in my mind somebody I want to impress. I don't know why I do this, but I always have. But last week as I was running my full mile, I realized, this is one of the very few things I'm doing for myself. So, why am I wasting time trying to impress anybody? The person I should impress is myself, I want to prove to myself that this is something I can achieve & honestly, I'm going to achieve it mostly on my own. This is for me & I finally recognized that. I really think that by forgetting what other people think, who I'm going to impress, really pushed me to challenge myself.
And I'll leave this here... Dare I say, I might be starting to enjoy running?

But yesterday was a gorgeous day out & I made myself go out for a run. It was great when I started with my warm up lap, the fresh air felt great, I didn't need my gloves on which was a perk. And then my warm up lap was over & I had to run.
It was a bad running day for me.
I don't know if it was because I was off the pavement for 2 weeks that got me really out of sync, or if it was because I was running alone (my sister tore her meniscus so she's out for the count) but I was so unhappy the whole time. Almost the entire time, I was thinking, how the heck am I going to run 3.1 miles straight in May? Why am I doing this?
I'm not normally a person of negative thoughts so this really bugged me. When I got home, I was cranky instead of my usual perky ways after a workout and that bothered me too. So I don't know what it was yesterday that just made me really hate running. I don't know if it was a combo of being out for 2 weeks & PMS (sorry for maybe TMI) or what, but I'm hoping it'll get better.
I'm not going to let one really bad day ruin it for me. I'm still going to run the 5K no matter what. I refuse to bow out just because yesterday I didn't enjoy it. I still don't know if I'll become one of those people who start off hating running and turn it around with loving it by the end of training or if I'll be one of those people who run a 5K and leave running behind.
But today is a new day! I have my running gear with me and will go for a run this afternoon after work. I'm not super sore which good & I'm going to start telling myself that running is a good thing, this will be a good day & that I can do it. So we'll see what happens.
Wish me luck!
