Welcome to our blog!
See what's brewing!
I have gotten into the awful habit of online shopping. Ok, let me be more honest, I have gotten into an awful habit of just shopping and charging it to credit cards. And it needs to slow down! Anybody with me on that?
Because I know I shop a lot and I enjoy getting new things, I only shop when I can get an amazing deal. But when I can get 10 amazing deals at Kohl's or TJ Maxx... it still adds up super fast. So here I go, I'm making myself stop shopping so often to save more money!
Here are some things I'm choosing to do to help me cut back:
First, I've set a goal in mind. I'm 24 and in a few years I'd like to be able to buy a house. But that means cutting back now to put away as much money as I can. It also means cutting back on using my credit cards so I can pay off what I owe already. If I keep that goal in my forefront, I should be ok with making these changes.
But, is anybody else feeling the pressure to cut back and save like I am?
Just now, I unsubscribed to emails from all stores. Yup, no more emails from J. Crew outlets, NY and CO, Bed Bath & Beyond, Joann Fabrics and at least a half dozen more (at least!). That way, if I don't know about a sale or a deal, I won't be tempted to shop for things I don't need. I'm going to try to only online shop when I need something or if it's for a gift.
So go ahead, don't be scared, hit that unsubscribe button!
I've also set up my new change jar for 2014. This is something I do every year. I throw in all my spare change and single dollar bills into an old vase. At the end of the year, I cash it in and I'm always surprised! My 2013 coins alone came out to more than $150, and my best friend who did the same totaled almost $250!
Knowing that I can save at least this much, makes me more
inclined to spend cash than use my credit cards where I'm paying interest. So here's to leaving all, but one, credit cards at home (just in case of an emergency) and just focus on using cash as much as I can! That will also limit me if I know I only have a certain amount I can spend. No more impulse purchases!
But if you do want to shop online...
Choose to shop through websites like Ebates. They show you website coupons and promo codes. But mainly, you get a certain percentage of cash back per transaction! A few times a year, they'll send you a check with your cash back. Cash it and save it!

Another great website is called Swag Bucks. This one is a little different than Ebates although you can online shop for swags! You can do different tasks like surveys, polls, watching videos, playing games or shopping to earn what they call swags. You can then redeem your swags for prizes or gift cards! I've been doing this for a few years and I've earned a couple hundred dollars in gift cards. I try and redeem them before the holidays to places like Amazon or even just PayPal so shopping for loved ones becomes a little more affordable!

It's a slow start, but it's a start! Making these few changes should help me cut down on my spending so I can focus on getting out of debt quicker and save money for a house in my future!
