Welcome to our blog!
See what's brewing!
Shopping for fabric is hands down one of my favorite things (but not for my bank account!) Sometimes it's fun to skip shopping for yards of fabric at your local fabric store or online and to get out there and see where else you can find great fabric.
What's cool is thinking outside of your local fabric store or fabric stores online...It spices things up! Here are just a few options to start looking outside of the box!
Some of my favorite fabric, cloth napkins! New and unused of course. Super gorgeous, heavy duty but light at the same time. Typically a set of them will be a great size to make a bunch of smaller items. It was the perfect size for this three piece set you see to the left. I was able to make a makeup case, tissue pouch and glasses case with fabric to spare!
I found this set and another at a garage sale actually, still in its original wrapping. The cost was extremely inexpensive and I think my products came out beautiful!
Another great find: bed sheets! I personally only use a bottom sheet when I sleep (weird, I know) so I'll try and find prints that I think are fun and fabulous. That way, I have fun sheets on my bed and great fabric to work with. Solid color sheets are also fantastic to use to line projects with. Sheets give you a lot of fabric to work with, even if it's only a twin size. Getting them on sale or with a coupon will save you some money too!
Check to see if there are any local upholstery businesses who might be interested in selling the bits of fabric that would be great for you to sew with. What are scrap pieces to them are gold mines for you. Typically their bits and pieces just don't leave enough yardage to use for their large projects. Upholstery fabric is absolutely stunning. It's of amazing quality, thick and durable. Patterns range from bold to elegant and everything in between. It's a great way to recycle fabric too!
Curtains, are another great option. Here, you'll also get a lot of yardage. But you'll also get a lot of variety on different types of fabric. You can go light and flowing or heavy duty. Along the same line are finding table cloths that you may love. You can easily turn them into runners if they are a bold print or simply make something fun! It can be a great way when decorating your home to tie in different parts of your house together..
Keep thinking outside the box.. Use t-shirts, vinyl tablecloths for outdoor items, blankets, or tie dye & dye your own fabrics, There is fabric all around us, it doesn't need to be wrapped around a bolt to be used! Some of my favorite fabric weren't bought in a normal store setting. Nope, I stumbled across them and took them home to see what magic I could make!
Stay tuned to see what unconventional items are fun to craft with!
