DIY Flower Crown

If you're like me, then you're obsessed with Snapchat- and let's be real, the filters that come with it.  I have loved the flower crown filter- I just enjoy the little extra fun. So I decided I finally would learn how to make them!

What I love about this craft is it's easy- it can be time consuming depending on how many flowers you're using. But it's also inexpensive. The wire & tape you use- you can use it for so many other projects & it's going to last you. The flowers- if you're like me & love coupons, then you can get these inexpensive at the craft store! You can also decide how big, small, simple or extravagant you want these to be!  It's a fun project to do with your girlfriends with some wine & snacks!

Here is how I created mine (and trust me, I learned the hard way of not doing my research ahead of time):

What you need:
-A bunch of fake flowers
-Floral wire OR a thin headband
-Floral tape
-Scissors

The nice thing about this project is you don't need much to do it. I got a couple of the bunches of flowers on super sale so I paid under $4 a bunch. I used the flowers that are already grouped together- I liked this because they coordinated & they usually have leaves or some type of other non flower that you can add onto your crown to fill in space where needed!
Picture
The first thing you're going to do is measure your crown. Take your wire & wrap it around your head twice.
You don't want it to be super tight- remember, it should sit comfortably on your head.
Then, twist the ends together to secure it & put it aside for now.

Now, you're going to spend some time with your scissors! Grab those & your bunch of flowers.
You're going to begin to cut everything out of your bunch. You do want to leave about 2 inches of the stem on each flower, leaf, etc. You can always trim it down later, but it's better to have a little extra to start off with!
I like to also sort everything out as I'm cutting. It just makes the thought process of the kind of crown your creating & the actual creating of the crown a little easier. I sort out the flowers based on size & color if necessary too.

Once I do this, I start thinking about how it's going to look. Am I going to create a pattern? Is it going to be totally random? Do I want it to have a ton of flowers? Do I want it on the lighter side? You can make this however you have envisioned it!

Now the assembly begins!
If you're using a thin headband- you can skip this part!
I start at the back where we twisted the ends together. The great thing is once it's done- you won't see where this was!
Now, take your floral tape & your first flower. You're going to use about 2-3 inches of the tape at a time. If you need to- you can trim down the stem of your flowers.
This tape is a little weird- it's sticky on both sides so it sticks to itself.
Picture
Hold your flower with one hand & use your dominate hand to begin to tape around the stem. Make sure you're taping tight so the flower is securely on there because you don't want it moving once it's on your head.
You're going to do this same process on your headband too.
One trick I realized is even when you tightly secure the flower onto the wire, it can still slide throughout. So, as I keep adding flowers, I tape them an inch or so from where it's final spot is giving my hands more room to work. Then I slide it down!

If you need more tape- get more tape or you can trim the stem right from here too. You're going to keep repeating this until your crown is complete!

I tend to do repeating patterns on my crowns. So if you're doing this- to make sure it's even, I do one set of pattern on one side, then one set on the other side & continue to alternate until I hit the middle.

If you're using the thin headband, decide what you want to be the focal point on the top of your crown which will be on the top of your head. I'd start here at the middle point & work your way down the sides!

And once you keep repeating, you're done! Now you can show it off to everybody! Be super fancy & super cute all at the same time!
