If you can recall, last summer I wrote a post regarding the Look Good, Feel Better (LGFB) program run by the American Cancer Society. The program provides free wigs & makeup for cancer patients as they go through treatment. When my aunt Carol was going through her colon cancer battle, she never lost her hair through treatment. It's crazy to think that after endless amounts of chemo & radiation that her hair sat perfectly on her head. But when the cancer spread to her brain last spring, the next course of treatment caused her hair loss. I set up her appointment for the LGFB so easily by calling the American Cancer Society hotline. That afternoon of her LGFB session, was so much fun. We tried on all sorts of wigs, we laughed, I cried and it was an afternoon right before her passing, that I am still so thankful for.
So I decided it was my turn to give back. I grew my thick brown locks & was originally going to donate my hair once it got long enough that I could donate & keep it at least shoulder length. And then I realized, that by the time that happened, it would be another year & I couldn't wait that long. So instead, I decided it was time to go big or go home and do a massive, massive cut. Once I have my mind set on something, it's set.
Off I went to my favorite salon, Scott Thomas Salon in Shrub Oak NY, because I knew they would do me right. I might have cried a little bit in my car in the parking lot, not because I was about to get my hair cut, but because I wished my aunt was still here with me today. I cried knowing that so many families would be seeking out wigs during cancer treatment . I cried because I truly, want to live in a cancer free world, I don't want my future children to ever have to worry about hear the words; "you have cancer".
The cut happened & I am thrilled with my outcome, I was able to donate over 10 inches! What I hope, is that other families going through such trying times, will find that an afternoon at Look Good, Feel Better will give them some smiles, some laughter, some comfort & the courage to keep fighting!

Ever since making the switch to a custom order based small business, I have been really into the idea of creating decorations for entire parties. But it's really hard to gauge if that's something I'd even enjoy doing & if it's something I'm capable of doing until I do one.
Lucky for me, my best friend's son, Diego (aka my nephew) was going to celebrate his first birthday this April!
Her & her husband decided on a Mickey Mouse party & I was pumped and ready to create! So here is what we decided on making, what I created & you'll easily see why I do love what I do! More parties to come in the future!
It all started with some handmade, customized invitations. Growing up, I always had a hard time finding things with my name since it was spelt with a 'K' so I am very into making sure that everybody can have items with their name on them! We settled on these really cute & simpler Mickey Mouse invites. They came out so adorable & the personal touches made it even more special!
Then came his name banner! This was the third name banner I've made for my little Diego & he'll come to know that he'll get a name banner every year for the rest of his life (more for special events!). I loved making this super Mickey inspired! I think name banners are such an easy way to add that personalization to any party. They're great to use over & over or to hang up in a playroom too!
From here, we wanted to add little touches to make the party super special. One thing we both wanted to highlight, was Diego's transformation from month to month in his first year. Diego's parents had taken a picture of him every month & let me tell you how much that kid changed! It's incredible! So to highlight this, I simply made coordinating Mickeys with the number of each month & we hung the corresponding picture underneath them. Hanging them all in a line made it really easy to see how truly beautiful his first year was!
Then it was onto the food. Our little food tents we made were a huge HIT and I must say, they were some of my favorite pieces of the decorations. There was zero confusion with what each dish was, everybody loved reading the little titles we came up with for each dish.
To super help celebrate his first birthday, we made sure to make his highchair something super awesome. So came the ONE mini banner that we hung on in Mickey Mouse colors of course! The extra detail made his pictures during the
Happy Birthday even cuter (even though you didn't think they couldn't get cuter because of his little face!).
And some final details, we added some personalization to each of the goody bags for all of the kids! Each bag had a Mickey with the kids name! It added some easy fun to each bag! We also took the party hats up a notch & added Mickey ears! Can we talk about cuteness?
Overall, I really fell in love with doing a whole party worth of decorations. Right after this party, I landed another order but instead this time it was for Minnie Mouse invitations and a customized Minnie banner! I love how people are getting excited the way I'm getting excited about this new venture in the business!!
